I’ve tried here to put together a blog that covers various aspects of the climate crisis—one person’s digest of the issues. Politics will be stressed because that, after all, is how we must change things.
Who am I to do this? My major interests are music and politics but I still call myself a generalist. I’ve written about many things over time but the climate crisis now looms as the most profound problem humanity has ever had to solve. The issues are both diverse and deep. My purpose here is to report on pieces, both generalist and specialist in character, that strike me as significant.
A few years ago I published a book called Mingus Speaks—my interviews with the great bassist-composer and commentary by his close associates. The book presented Mingus as a person of wide, opinionated experience, reporting on music and life. I’ve tried to reflect that spirit in this blog.
