The Trees

The sick lunatic who is our president is trying to pull another fast one, this time on DC’s East Potomac Golf Course, a national treasure. Like his takeover grab for the Kennedy Center. Now 500 old historic trees are down so he can build another Trump golf course. A fierce legal battle is on, and the judge is angry.

Trees are a big deal for me, as they are for many people. I loved and climbed them as a kid; so did my kids. I admired their glorious colors in the fall. As a former DC resident, my back went up when I heard about this. Like many of you I read Richard Powers’ fantastical novel, The Overstory, about how trees communicate (yes) and how we relate to them and they to the natural world. The book reveals the forces aligned against them. Powers, who won a Pulitzer for it, could not have imagined Trump’s tree-killers now at work. Here’s some of what they have been doing, which has generated big legal battles, still to be resolved.

  1. As the Buddhists say, “if you cut a tree, your arm will bleed.” T doesn’t know this, but it will, big time..

  2. I was on a street corner in Boston with a VOTE NOW sign yesterday.
